Wedding Wise Wednesday – September 9th, 2009
Posted: September 9, 2009
Every week I post the coolest wedding stories and best deals I find in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday.
And as you may have noticed, I haven’t been posting much else – I looked around last week and realized that I’m working on six weddings over the next year, half of which are in the next month. If it’s any consolation, twitter and facebook have also been badly neglected. Thank God for assistants, both virtual and local. And coffee. And itunes, frankly.
Tomorrow, I’m starting a new blog series, called “No Brides Were Harmed in the Making of this Wedding”, following my newest clients, Anne and Jack, as we plan their wedding next June. People keep asking me how this wedding planning thing works, and well, I’m going to show you how it works.
But, on to the Wedding Wisest:
Squee of the Week:
Love, Love, LOVE this:
Simple and beautiful – carnations on ceramic cake stands. I’m not sure where she found the picture, but I found it on Wedding 2010.
Cool:
I posted on this last month, but the 99 cents store in Hollywood is hosting 9 weddings this morning, between 8:09 and 9:09 am. Everything is coming from, or made with, items from the store, including the wedding dresses. And they’ve already set up a photo gallery, so, oh, yeah, stay tuned for more.
How to Make a Ribbon Bouquet – you know, for bridal showers. Or rather, FROM bridal showers. A lot of brides take them to the rehearsal, but Anne at “I Will to I Do” has another suggestion – save money and use it as your toss bouquet, too.
DIY Succulent Favors
I’m looking at one of these on my desk right now. So pretty, so easy to put together. Thanks to Practical Wedding for the tip. And for this head’s up:
Ben and Jerry’s Chubby Hubby is now Hubby Hubby – to celebrate the legalization of gay marriage in the company’s home state of Vermont. Yay! I will be so happy when we can stop talking about this issue, because it is annoying that we even have to talk about it, you know? All citizens of this country are afforded equal protection under the law. ALL of them. Any day now.
You know when you buy a new car, and then you see nothing but that make and model on the road everywhere?
Remember Adorn Brides from last week? Well, they’re back this week – Pre-Owned Wedding Dresses is holding a contest for one lucky bride to win $2500 in jewelry rentals with them. You can enter from now until October 31st. And, they’ve also hooked up with Bridal Tweet to award one lucky bride a pair of diamond earrings for the big day, you just have to register on the website between September 15th and October 30th, Good Luck!
Speaking of Pre-Owned Wedding Dresses, two more local resources just popped onto my radar – Los Angeles Dream Bridal in West Los Angeles, and Vintage Glam’s Flea Market online, where you can search for dresses and other wedding items locally.
The Deal:
Favor Favor – Over 100 favors for $1.00 each. You’re welcome!
The Events:
Crate and Barrel’s Gift Registry Parties
Starting Sunday, September 13, at many of their L.A. locations. I’ve been to these before and they’re a lot of fun, what with the free food and drinks and gifts and all.
The Wedding Salon
Monday, September 14th
The London Hotel
1020 North San Vicente Blvd
West Hollywood, CA 90069
THE luxury Bridal Show in Los Angeles. Tickets are usually $50 (told you!), but if you register online and use the code HCTGLA09, it’s only $15 for two people. Thanks to the L.A. Wedding Examiner for the code.
Well, back to finalizing day-of time lines and finding wedding venues for me. Have a great week, and I’ll see you at the end of the aisle,
Liz C.
