Don't Mess With the Dress!
Posted: January 22, 2010
First of All, L.A. Style Unveiled just posted my article on putting together a Wedding Day Timeline, so take a look and let me know what you think.
Second of all, two of my favorite photographers, Jen and Nate with B&G Photography, are donating a percentage of their fees to Doctors Without Borders’s efforts in Haiti, for clients signing up between now and February 14th. Click on the link for more details. Not only do they shoot wonderful wedding photos, but they do family portraits as well.
How’s everyone’s week been? Mine? BUSY. On Wednesday, I went dress shopping with one of my brides at La Soie Bridal in Pasadena. Dress shopping is…interesting. I’ve been doing this for a few years, and one thing I’ve learned (the hard way) – you don’t mess with the dress. When you try a dress on, it’s either the dress you want to wear on your wedding day, or it isn’t. Your wedding should be about what you want, and your personality, not what your friends and family think you should have, and this applies to your dress, too.
We started out over the weekend at Rose Petal Bridal’s sample sale, but no go. She had a specific dress in mind, and La Soie had it, so off we went. And what was funny, and it happens all the time, was when she DID try on the dress, she wasn’t thrilled with it. Luckily, they have a lot more dresses, and we found one that she really liked. Came back the next day to put down the deposit and get her measurements, and she pulled me aside – she wasn’t sure about that one, either, but should she just get it anyway? Her friends thought she looked great in it, it was the right price…uh, NO. Despite the vaguely panicked look on the salesperson’s face (and who could blame her, really?), Cara tried on a couple of dresses and finally came out with with a big huge smile on her face. This was the one! And guess what? It cost $300 less the one she’d originally picked. Love it when that happens. And, no, the dress in the picture is not the one she picked because, you know, duh. Next stop – wedding site search. We’ll be checking out prospects tomorrow, starting with the Oviatt Penthouse and Cicada, both downtown. You can’t mess with the venue, either.
