Wedding Wise Tips of the Day: March 2018

Follow  Silver Charm Events on Facebook to get daily wedding tips delivered to your feed. Here are this month’s tips:

3/1 – Wedding Wise Tip #57 – Cake frosting melts in direct sunlight. Badly.

3/2 – Wedding Wise Tip  #58 – You can get 3-4 glasses out of a bottle of wine. 3-4 drinks per guest…let your bartender do the math for you.

3/3 – Wedding Wise Tip #59 – Where are you waking up the day of your wedding? In other words, decide where you’re staying the night before.

3/4 – Wedding Wise Tip #60 –  You’re going to spend all this money and all this time on one day, and you’re not going to get what you want? Seriously? That’s crazy talk.

3/5 – Wedding Wise Tip #61  If you have out-of town guests, secure a block of rooms at a nearby hotel. More on this tomorrow.

3/6 – Wedding Wise Tip #62   2. There are two types of hotel blocks – guaranteed and complementary blocks

3/7 – Wedding Wise Tip #63  3. Complimentary block = hotel agrees to give you a set number of rooms, usually up to 10, at a locked in rate, guests given deadline to book.  Sign a contract, but no financial obligation.

3/8 – Wedding Wise Tip #64  4. Guaranteed Block = hotel gives you a set number of rooms at a set rate, BUT your guests have to book a certain  % of those, or you pay for the rest.

3/9 – Wedding Wise Tip #65 5. If you run out of rooms in either type of block, your hotel can add more.

3/10 – Wedding Wise Tip #66 – The first step in bandaging your budget is deciding  Decide how much much money you need to cut. $500? $1,000? $2,000? Pick your price.

3/11 – Wedding Wise Tip #67 – Another way to bandage your budget is to downgrade some of your rentals. White lawn chairs are cheaper than brown wood, which are cheaper than chiavaris. No chargers, basic water glass, etc.

3/12 – Wedding Wise Tip #68 – Budget bandage second step (I know,I skipped) is to look at your contracts and deposits. Do you have minimum buys? Is it possible to cut? More tomorrow.

3/13 – Wedding Wise Tip #69 – Catering #budgetbandages one less appetizer, less slices of cake or dessert, downgrade salad choice, basically ASK what you can do.

3/14 – Wedding Wise Tip #70 – Florist #budgetbandages – less flowers, in season, same effect and color scheme. Never underestimate the power of small and beautiful.

3/15 – Wedding Wise Tip #71 – #budgetbandage mentality – No shame about cutting stuff. We get it. Work within the parameters of your contracts. Be nice when you ask for help.

3/16 – Wedding Wise Tip #72 – #budgetbandages mentality No.2 – one less, one less. That goes for the bar, too. One less wine or hard alcohol, limited bar menu.

3/17 – Wedding Wise Tip #73 – If you know it’s going to be really hot outside, price out tents and umbrellas. Ask your venue what works best for the space and your number of guests.

3/18 – Wedding Wise Tip #74 – In Wedding World, always ask permission first instead of forgiveness later. Forgiveness can come with a STOP sign. Or worse, a price tag.

3/19 – Wedding Wise Tip #75 – You should each make a list of three things that you want at your wedding. A certain color, a certain design element, a certain scotch. Make those happen.

3/20 – Wedding Wise Tip #76 – Whatever is heading towards disaster right now, remember what Marie Forleo said, “everything is figureoutable.” If it isn’t right now, it will be.

3/21- Wedding Wise Tip #77 – If you have to hire waiters and staff for your wedding, you’re going to need one waiter per two tables of guests. More tomorrow.

3/22 – Wedding Wise Tip #77- #staff continued – you will need at least one bartender, but discuss if you need a barback, too.

3/23 – Wedding Wise Tip #78 – Your staff can also help set-up linens and table settings, confirm and then schedule them to arrive early enough to help with that.

3/24 – Wedding Wise Tip #79 – When wedding tasks start to be drag( and they will) top each of with a reward. After you send out invites, go out for Happy Hour. Picking out rentals, reward yourself with your most indulgent Starbucks drink. Make it fun.

3/25 – Wedding Wise Tip #80 – Give yourself permission to not care about the wedding world stuff you don’t care about. Traditions are traditions, not rules.

3/26 – Wedding Wise Tip #81 – Hire a good photographer and/or videographer, the best you can afford. You are going to have those pictures forever, and you’re going to want to look at them forever.

3/27 – Wedding Wise Tip #82- Changing your name after you get married? Order at least TWO copies of your marriage certificate, one for you, one for the social security office.

3/28 – Wedding Wise Tip #83- The new social security replacement card application is extensive, just warning you.

3/29 – Wedding Wise Tip #84-You’ll also need another original certified copy of your marriage certificate to get a new passport.

3/30 – Wedding Wise Tip #85- Wedding Wise Tip #85 – In most venues, displaying candles comes with rules. That rule might be “No”. Don’t assume, ask.

3/31 – Wedding Wise Tip #86 – Staffing your bare wedding venue? You should have at least one waiter per every two guest tables.
