Wedding Wise Wednesay, March 17th

Every Week, I post the coolest and best Wedding deals, events and stories in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesdday. Welcome!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! My maiden name was McNamee, so I’ve always joked that there’s a little bit of Irish in there, somewhere. Not sure I’m going to be getting it out tonight, but my green coach purse is right next to me and there’s hard cider in my fridge, so I think I’m covered.

I’ve been SOOO busy in the past week! Three couples, one fundraising project, and my first informational session for (What A ) Wedding Planner Needs is this Saturday! If you want to become a wedding planner in L.A., I highly recommend that you stop by. It’s free, I just need you to register.

The Post of the Week:
And last, but not least, and right on time, this blog post from the 30-Something Bride – Bride Life vs. Real Life. She works with vendors all the time in real-life,and here’s how she’s applied that to her wedding planning. Like when you have $850 for your wedding dress, don’t go to Monique L’Huiller. Another snippet below, but read the rest, please:

The Thirty-Something Bride’s Real-Life Stuff: If I don’t like the price I’m offered for a particular item, I ask for a lower cost. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don’t. If I do, I make sure I thank the vendor. If I don’t, I have a decision to make.

The Wedding Application: Negotiate with your vendors, but don’t be a dick. If the price is firm, make a decision and move on. Don’t torment yourself or the vendor…For you though, you’re inviting these people to be major players in a very emotional day filled with your closest friends and family. That’s a BIG deal…The vendor side: they offer a service at a price…It’s their JOB. It’s their livelihood. I mean, think about if your boss came by and asked you to accept a 10% pay decrease for the next month. You’d either say, “Eff off, dude! I’ve got rent to pay” or maybe something along the lines of, “Fine, but I’m taking an extra week of vacation this year.” Nobody works for free, don’t expect your vendors to.

See you at the end of the aisle,
