Wedding Wise Wednesday – See the Light!
Posted: February 24, 2010
Every Wednesday, I post the best wedding stories, events and deals in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!
Outside my office window, it looks like it’s going to start raining again soon. Which means I get to post this:
Behold! The White Lighted Umbrella! And I quote, “our umbrella generates an amazing 6 foot circle of light.” Ooh. I keep seeing it not only as wedding weather prevention or a favor, but as decoration, too. Dunno, I just love it.
Speaking of Cool Lighted Things
Over at Weddingish, Raya is featuring her Glow-in-The-Dark Bride and Groom tanks and tees, on sale this week for only $10. A bachelor/bachelorette party must-have, methinks.
Google Docs Does Weddings…Officially
And I say officially, because I’ve been using Google Docs to plan weddings for over a year, now. It’s the perfect way to post potential wedding sites, time lines, budgets, everything. But now they have a bunch of templates to help us all out. Thanks, Google!
Wedding Planner Annoys Bridal Show, Doesn’t Care
Last week, I was seriously considering having a booth at Bridal Showplace at the Knott’s Resort, so I shot them an email and gave them a call. Yes, there were tables available, but about that review you gave us a few months ago…. Uh, first of all, I pointed out that while I did express my discomfort with all the plastic surgery booths, and the fact (verified yesterday by a bride I brought with me) that none of their registration staff knew where anything was, that my review was pretty fair, and I stand by it. Plus, half the review was a listing of all the great deals and vendors I found at the show. And I stand by that as well. When it comes down to it, when someone points out all the problems in one of your shows, if they’re legitimate, and they were, shouldn’t you work on solving them? They were pretty easy fixes. I didn’t end up getting a booth, but I did drop by, and it was a lot better this time. Registration flowed a little smoother. The creepy gastric bypass guy was gone. The body shaper booth had women who were actually wearing the product manning them, as opposed to men who were definitely not. They still do have to work on the number of vendors compared to the size of the room, plus access to the secondary room. I felt that there were way too many tables crammed into the first space, and the second room was on the NINTH floor, a couple of doors down from the fashion show. Most brides would only have gone up there for the show, and the way it was set-up it was a good chance that they would bypass the second exhibition room entirely. That room was pretty lonely when I finally got up there, which was a shame, since that’s where the really yummy $2.75 a slice cake was hiding, you know? Ah, well.
